Questions and answers–United States
July 23rd, 2003
*sigh* I have not had much time to maintain this blog. The demands and distractions of daily life have kept me far away from it. And the recent high humidity has not helped; it makes me feel a little dull and slow.
Most of yesterday was spent searching for an uncatalogued Stolberg book. All of the Stolberg experts were away so this was quite a learning experience for me. Fortunately, with the help of Prince Christian Ernst’s careful annotations, the book was located and the question that prompted the search solved.
Much time was also spent searching name and subject authority files. Searching for subject headings is becoming one of my favorite work activities. I am constantly discovering interesting headings and occasionally these headings become a source of amusement. I decided yesterday that it was time to start my own strange and interesting bib. record file (the equivalent of the joke file around here).
Unfortunately, “Questions and answers” cannot be added to my new file. I discovered yesterday that this is a valid heading (although not correctly assigned for the particular record I was updating). Apparently, it is used for “collections of miscellaneous facts”. Hmmm…sort of like this blog at times.

I hope the Stolberg books will be catalogued in future. It was a desaster for German cultural property that this unique collection was dispersed in the 1930’s.
