This weekend (Saturday, Nov. 12, and Sunday, Nov. 13) is the 14th Annual Connecticut Children’s Book Fair in Storrs at the University of Connecticut. The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both days and is free and open to the public.
The fair is organized by the Thomas J. Dodd Research Center and the UConn Co-op as a benefit for the Northeast Children’s Literature Collections. Tomie dePaola, whose manuscript collection is at the Dodd Center, will be autographing books on Sunday.

Next weekend, October 28 through 30, is the Boston International Antiquarian Book Fair.
For fellow playful antiquarians, there are several children’s book events to check out. At Saturday’s collectors roundtable, sponsored by the Ticknor Society, Richard Cheek will talk about his World War I collection, which includes many children’s books. Then, on Sunday, there will be a discussion on children’s book illustrations, sponsored by the Eric Carle Museum. And, of course, a number of booksellers specializing in rare children’s books will have booths at the fair, including Aleph-Bet Books, Jo Ann Reisler, and Justin G. Schiller.
This year I am only making a brief appearance on Sunday (sigh…Saturday classes and midterms), but I am looking forward to the weekend’s events. Happy buying and browsing, everyone!
