RIAA wants songwriter cut lowered
Slashdot discusses the recording industry’s proposal that songwriters take even less of the pie than they do now. This is possibly relevant to some of the discussion we’ll be having with Brad Sucks on Feb. 11.

Someone in class mentioned that if we don’t support the recording industry, they won’t be able to sign new bands, because the process by which they find, sign, and promote new talent is so expensive (a similar argument to one employed by Big Pharma). I was thinking, wouldn’t we be doing those bands that don’t get signed a favor? See also “The Real Reason Major Record Companies Suck”.

Someone made an argument in class similar to that employed by Big Pharma, which is that we have to support the recording industry because the cost of finding and developing new talent is so high. I think maybe we’re doing the majority of bands that sign those recording contracts a favor.
