Perpetual Julie
September 5, 2003 at 11:53 pm | In yulelogStories | 2 CommentsIf you live in B.C. or the Pacific Northwest, or just are interested in what’s going on ecologically around here (you know, along the lines of “global warming, local warning”), check out this post by Julie of Perpetualkarma. You know, “just” a blogger, having a little conversation, an address to the reader. No bullshit, but from the heart. This is it, people, girl-next-door (or guy-next-door) taking notes. It could be you, could be anyone, doing this. This is it: pay attention. All of us next door to one another, ready to point, point, point.
It seems the extremely dry conditions of this summer and the fires will continue into future years. It’s all part of global warming, so they say openly on CBC Radio and elsewhere now.
Technopeasant strikes again, Look at the Fool
September 5, 2003 at 7:27 pm | In yulelogStories | 4 CommentsThanks to some reader alerts, I learned that pictures on my blog weren’t showing up on Internet Exploder in Windows. They looked fine in Mac, though, and they looked fine in Windows using Opera. But not IE. Why? Because I left out the width definition, using only height instead. I did this deliberately because it allowed the other browsers and platforms to configure the image so that it wasn’t distorted. If I put in both height & width, I never got it right and the image showed up pulled too far into width or height. (And I know there’s some rule or something that applies that I don’t know, so if you do, please share…. Not defining was a way of getting around whatever rule there is.) But IE defined width for me, as 0 (in words: zero), and that’s why the image showed up as a long vertical line. Ok, I just put in a width definition for those images I had a couple of days ago — you did see Madonna kissing, no?? — but I’m sure you’ll notice that they’re just so slightly distorted, too.
Can anyone help me out here? If I take (steal, take-away, appropriate, ooh, jargon …whatever) an image, put in a height definition, how do I know what the width should be, especially since some images are horizontal and others are vertical format?
Ok, I’m going back to listening to Tim Buckley’s Look at the Fool. How’s this for a lyric: “Making love like a skinned cat crawling ‘cross the highway….” Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!!
Aurgh, now someone put on an LP, for god’s sake: Greetings from L.A. That’s it, I’m a goner: Sweet Surrender.
Theme: Pool by Borja Fernandez.
