happy men learn to find beauty in those seemingly unimportant details of life

about

certainly, there are kings and philosophers who must brush aside the seemingly unimportant details of life to focus on important tasks and grand ideas. they must remain the guardians of that macro world, we distantly observe, and find in it the beauty and meaning of their lives.

but for us lesser folk, those who are still students in these halls, those seemingly minor details are where we seek both beauty and joy, where we find our purpose and passions. the simple pleasures of studying the changing colors of autumn leaves and lamenting a difficult question in the classroom are not our pastimes, these are the moments that form and define our simple yet happy lives.

not many months ago, i left my pennsylvania village for an opportunity to add my patch to the quilt of crimson and white. entering the yard, i passed through a small gate above which was inscribed: “enter to grow in wisdom.” i am assured that wisdom will come in those often silenced details–the etcetera, etcetera, etcetera so many have brushed aside. these few postings are musings from that journey.
