What I’m Learning about the Home Services Business
When I originally posted Swimming through School the company contacted me to say thanks for the “blogger PR”. It’s a bit funny considering my readership here consists primarily of a few ex-colleagues, my girlfriend and her cat. Anyway, since I recently got hired to do some more local services promotional materials, I wanted to touch on a trend I’m seeing, or I should say not seeing -> brands do not dominate local services. When you need a new TV, do a few big brands come to mind? How about when you need your A/C serviced? Different situation entirely! Does a brand name come to mind when you go to buy a lawnmower? Well, how about when you need a landscaper? You see, there are really no dominate brands in home and local services. And that’s why this swimming pool company always asked me to refer to them online by simply their service name. Why waste money on branding that won’t stick? When I would setup online promotions, it’s was real easy:
